Sometimes its a bit scary taking photos for your own family. The extra familiarity can put one another at ease, or it can unnerve those at the end of the lens.

Luckily for me, I had an amazing afternoon with my cousins and it was pretty easy to get a great shot! Here are just a few from our session …

I had such a fun session with Rebecca, Aaron and young Harry, who wanted to capture their final days as a family of three.

The attention span of a 3 year old is short, so you have to be quick! Harry was great and is now big brother to wee Alexander, who’s photos I will be taking next week. So, more to come soon …

Family Portraits at Herne Bay Beach

I had a fantastic morning with these boys down at the beach.

Certainly getting a 2 year old, 4 year old and 5 year old to look at the camera all at once has its challenges!

We had a great time and managed to find some pretty awesome ‘gun sticks’ in the process.

It is always so neat photographing kids as you really don’t know what you are going to get!

I had a very brief but very fun photos session with Sam and Cooper after school one day.

These guys were amazing, I think natural cheerfulness always shines through and is such a pleasure to work with. Here are just a few of the shots we captured.

I photographed her when she was just over a week old and looking a lot more like a gorgeous doll than a real person!

An 80th birthday celebration was a great opportunity to capture some photos of the whole family.

It was so lovely to photograph four generations together as well as pregnant sisters Sarah-Kate and Eliza who will be adding to the family very shortly!

I met Leanna while photographing a family wedding earlier this year. She wanted to surprise her mum with a birthday gift of photos of all the children.

And what stunning children they are! We had a such a fun photo session out at the family farm, I had a great morning with these lovely ladies and young Angus.

Dogs and Ducks in the Waikato

Just thinking, the title of this post may imply that we were up at the crack of dawn for duck shooting season. Ohhh, no way.

I compete in dog agility and this provides the opportunity to travel and capture moments that would otherwise be missed.

One advantage ( perhaps the only advantage? ) of getting up at 5am is that I was able to witness the brief but gorgeous sunrise.

Thank you to my models who took time out from the competition arena to work it for the camera instead; Sonic, Pippi, Molly, Clutch, Indy, Cruz, Bry and Jess you are super stars!

Deihl Family – Portraits at Botanical Gardens

I had the pleasure of spending the morning with this young family on their wedding anniversary, roaming the beautiful Auckland Botanical Gardens.

The photos were an anniversary present, what a great gift!

Bear was on his best behavior and between him and little Arya I had some pretty cute subjects to photograph!
